The muscles of the mouth, tongue, lip and jaw can present with weakness, that can require speech therapy to remediate many speech and or swallowing difficulties.  A child or an adult, can experience an open mouth posture, drooling, difficulty with tongue retraction and as well creating a bilabial (lip) closure seal.

This can result in with difficulty to produce precise articulation, difficulty chewing and or swallowing.  When an individual presents with any of these signs, it is important to address to decrease, prevent and extinguish low tone, reverse swallowing and increase coordination of the lips, tongue and jaw for speech intelligibility and swallowing.  The tongue is a muscle that requires great strength.  A structured oral motor program is designed specifically to each individuals needs.
